To assist
Would you love to spend a week or perhaps a few months on Rhodes, surrounded by sunshine and tranquility, surrounded by clay and creativity? Then there might be a place for you as an assistant during one of Ceramicaza's ceramics holidays.
What does assisting entail?
As an assistant, you'll be an indispensable helping hand throughout the retreat. You'll support me (Gudrun) with the practical and creative aspects of the week. This includes:
-
Help with setting up and cleaning up the workshops
-
preparing clay, tools and workspaces
-
Light technical work: demonstrating centering, guiding with basic techniques (only if you can and want to) in both throwing and hand-forming and decorating
-
Support during decoration and glazing sessions
-
Help with drying, sorting, packing and shipping students' work
-
the reclaiming of the dried clay
-
Sensing what is needed – sometimes practically, sometimes with attention and a reassuring word
You don't need to be a teacher, but you do need to be able to work independently with clay (throwing and/or hand-shaping) and enjoy interacting with people.
What do you get in return?
-
Participation in the retreat in Rhodes (accommodation, food, ceramics program included)
-
Time to work and get inspired
-
You will be guided to improve your throwing or glazing skills
-
You can use the same facilities as the students
-
A unique experience in a special place
-
A role in a loving, creative and relaxed atmosphere
-
You only pay for your own travel
Who is this for?
The assistant position is intended for someone who enjoys contributing to making a special experience possible for others, and who also grows from it.
You don't have to be a professional – enthusiasm and work ethic are just as important.
When and for how long?
Assistants can participate in the Ceramicaza retreats in Greece during the months:
April, May, June, September and October.
The duration varies: some stay for a week, others for two or three weeks. We'll coordinate this with you based on availability and needs. You can indicate your preferred starting and ending dates on the registration form. Please be sure to check the weekly schedule in the "Greek Retreats" section.
The longer you can assist, the greater your chances of being hired. We'll determine this around mid-January, so you know what to expect. If anything changes for you, please let me know as soon as possible.
