Evgenii Pokidaeff

This internationally active master thrower was born in Siberia, Russia. Evgenii is known, among other things, for his mastery of the Korean throwing process.

His work is defined by strength, precision and an almost intuitive command of form and rhythm — matched by his persistence and the intensity of his teaching. During this six-day intensive training, with six hours of throwing each day, he guides you step by step from simple cylinders to complex, multi-part forms. His greatest talent lies in how he shares his knowledge: his teaching skills are exceptional. If Evgenii can’t teach it to you, no one can.

The Content

Evgenii has developed the rare ability to work with multiple levels at the same time, keeping a sharp eye on every student and adjusting their practice instantly. His technique — inspired by the Korean throwing process — is known for its power, clarity, and complete control of every stage, from centering to firing.
In this six-day intensive he takes you from simple cylinders to complex, multi-part forms, with personal guidance at every level.

The Goals
  • Confident throwing:
beginners up to 2–3 kg, intermediates 4–6 kg, advanced up to 10 kg

  • Throwing narrow necks, closed forms and teapots

  • Cleaner finishing: trimming, handles, proportions

  • Evgenii’s personal technique and direct individual feedback

  • Decorative techniques applied on wet clay during throwing — powerful, direct, and without fuss

What to Expect

Days 1–2 – You refine the fundamentals: hand positions, posture, and strength. This forms the base for working with larger amounts of clay.
Days 3–4 – You move to heavier work: higher weights, greater stability, and more complex forms.
Days 5–6 – Demonstration days. Zhenya adapts his demos to the group: closed forms, throwing 3–10 kg, multi-part forms, lids — everything is covered.

The Teacher

Evgenii Pokidaev (Pokidaeff) is an internationally renowned master thrower from Siberia with over fifteen years of experience at the wheel. What began as a fascination became a life devoted entirely to clay, travel and teaching.

He is best known for his clear, technical teaching method. In both live and online workshops he guides beginners and advanced throwers alike, focusing on efficient hand positions, safe use of the body, and control over large amounts of clay. Many of his students learn to throw 6 kg (or more) and build complex pieces.

Evgenii works with strong individual focus: from relaxed centering and clean cylinders to tall forms, narrow necks, closed volumes and multi-part pieces such as teapots. For him, throwing is not only a craft but also a way of seeing and living — “potter of your life.”
