Lia van Muijen
Hello, let me introduce myself.
My name is Lia van Muijen, I was born and raised in the Netherlands and live in The Hague.
Delft blue is of course "typically Dutch" and I have been teaching it for 40 years.
I learned this fantastic craft from a professional painter at the Porceleyne Fles, the most famous Delft Blue factory in the Netherlands.
I have exhibited at the CKC (art and culture center) in Zoetermeer, the Messiaskerk in Wassenaar, and in a group exhibition with students at the Hofboerderij, a cultural center in Wateringen.
I teach my students the entire technique step by step, according to the original method.
We'll start with a simple tile and after 5 lessons, you'll be able to paint a complete pattern on a board. In both blue and polychrome (multicolored).
You don't need to be able to draw for this workshop, as we'll be working with ponceaux. This is a punctured drawing through which charcoal is dusted, creating a dotted image on your piece.
All designs are my own. After painting, the piece is glazed and fired in a ceramic kiln at 1040°C.
The best part, for me, is the amazement of the students who start with "this is way too difficult for me" and super enthusiastic every time the vessels emerge from the kiln.
Especially for the workshop in Greece, we will end the 6th lesson with a decoration of the "typical Greece" Ikaros pottery.
