The assistants
At Ceramicaza we work with a small, close-knit team — and the assistants form a subtle but essential layer within it. They are the people who, in the midst of all the creative energy, bring clarity, calm and continuity. They prepare the clay, support the teaching process, and lend a helping hand wherever needed.
They anticipate, complement and keep the studio flowing without ever needing to be in the spotlight. Thanks to their attention, skill and timing, every retreat feels as though it runs effortlessly.
Assistants form the flexible, practical backbone of the Ceramicaza retreats. They are not in the spotlight, but without them no day would run as smoothly as it does. They support wherever needed, step in when things get busy, and sense instantly what helps in the moment — whether that’s an extra pair of hands, a technical pointer, or simply bringing calm into the room.
Assistants work independently with clay, but their real strength lies in their ability to hold the whole process together. They prepare workstations, ready the clay, tidy as they go, guide beginners through basic steps, and help with handbuilding, decorating or glazing. They keep an overview, notice what’s missing, and make sure participants feel seen and supported.
Behind the scenes they play an equally important role: reclaiming clay, sorting and drying work, helping with bisque firing and glaze preparation, and packing and shipping the finished pieces. These are tasks you don’t immediately notice — until they’re not done.
What makes assistants unique within the team is their combination of craftsmanship and human attention. They bring calm into the studio, help balance the rhythm of the day, and make sure the retreat feels not just well-organised but also light. They are the connecting layer between me, the technical flow, the schedule and the participants.
In short:
assistants are the people who let the retreat breathe.
Thanks to them, Ceramicaza runs smoothly, warmly and clearly — in every sense of the word.
